It’s a harmonious moment when day and night stand in perfect balance, a gentle reminder of life’s beautiful equilibrium. Let’s embrace this season of renewal, where hope and growth are in the air.
The Beginning of Spring, known as “Lichun” in Chinese, is the first of the 24 solar terms, marking the start of spring. It usually falls around February 3 – 5 each year.
This solar term holds great significance in Chinese culture. Historically, it was celebrated as a festival. In ancient times, emperors would lead grand ceremonies to welcome spring, praying for a bountiful harvest. Even today, people still mark this occasion in various ways.
When Lichun arrives, nature begins to stir. The weather gradually warms up, and the earth starts to regain its vitality. The frozen soil thaws, and plants sense the coming of spring, sprouting tender buds. It’s a time when the world transitions from the stillness of winter to the vibrancy of spring.
People also have some traditional customs related to Lichun. One well – known practice is eating “spring pancakes” or “spring rolls”, symbolizing embracing the new season and a hope for good luck and prosperity. Lichun is not just a sign of the change of seasons; it represents new beginnings, a time for people to shake off the sluggishness of winter and embrace the opportunities and growth that spring brings.
